Penciled inscription in back of case reads, "Fannie Paine - at - 1856 Hartwick NY / When - 18 years old." -- Sixth plate ambrotype portrait of a lovely youg woman wearing fine clothing and holding a framed image of a gentleman in view of the camera. (Darkening, splotching, bits of image deterioration, spotting to mat and preserver; unsealed.) Housed in a half pressed paper case. -- And 17 others, including 4 sixth plate daguerreotypes, one quarter plate ambrotype, 7 sixth plate ambrotypes, 2 ninth plate ambrotypes, 2 sixth plate tintypes, and one oval portrait on milk glass, many wthout full cases. -- Together, 20 portraits of women, some housed in Union cases, a few with photographer identification.
