Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A group of 13 European daguerreotype and ambrotype portraits featuring applied color, including:
Quarter plate ambrotype portrait of a seated woman looking down at a young girl leaning on the arm of the woman's chair. (Image a bid dark, with faded color and minor spotting, oxidation to mat; unsealed.) Housed in a fully separated case. --Sixth plate ambrotype portrait of an older woman wearing a bonnet and holding open a book with one hand. (Light wear to color; unsealed.) Housed in a full leatherette case. The opened book features what appears to be an illustration on one page, and gold highlighting on the other. -- And 11 others, including 5 quarter plate abrotypes, 3 sixth plate ambrotypes, one sixth plate daguerreotype, and 2 ninth plate ambrotypes, some without cases. -- Together, 13 European portraits featuring applied color.
