Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A trio of occupational images highlighted by a likely leather worker with tools, comprising:

Sixth plate daguerreotype seated portrait of a bearded gentleman wearing an apron over a shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. (Heavy tarnishing around subject, significant diagonal wiping to center, and additional spotting/specking throughout, spotting to mat, no preserver present; unsealed.) Housed in a pressed paper case (loss and some separation to spine). -- Sixth plate loose tintype portrait of a mustachioed man standing in work clothes, holding what appear to be leather working tools in both hands. (Some scratching/loss to image, some bends and dings to plate, corners clipped.) One tool looks to be a rounded knife used to cut leather. -- Sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of a gentleman wearing a vest and holding an indecipherable item, possibly a tool, in one hand. (Tarnishing and heavy spotting and wiping to plate, one spot obscures one of the subject's eyes, spotting/oxidation to mat and preserver; original seals.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case. -- Together, 3 occupational portraits.

19th-20th Century Historic Photography Collection of Dr. Joseph T. Pollock
