Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A group of 10 European daguerreotypes housed in wall frames, incl. family of 6 housed in wooden frame.
6 sixth plate daguerreotype portraits of likely family members including 2 adults and 4 children. (Tarnishing to all plate edges, clouding and halo effect to most plates; not examined out of frame.) Housed together in a 13 3/8 x 11 1/4 in. wooden wall frame. -- Approx. 2 1/4 in. diam. (sight) French daguerreotype portait of a young girl with an apprehensive expression, standing and resting her hands on the arm of a chair. (Heavy tarnishing and some spotting, affecting subject; not examined out of frame.) Housed in a 4 1/8 x 4 1/8 in. French frame with manufacturer sticker for "P. Gales," similar to a quarter plate frame listed as "European Style" [7-115G] in Berg (chipping and surface wear throughout). Verso with paper label identifying subject as "Gabrielle Lefib[ure?] de Fourig[?]" -- And 3 others, all daguerreotypes of children in frames, 2 having French labels on verso. -- Together, 10 daguerreotypes housed in frames.
