Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A collection of 22 sixth plate daguerreotype portraits of young adults and teenagers, including:
Portrait of a young man with long, curly hair. Woonsocket, RI: Goddard, ca 1855. (Tarnishing to edges, very light glass weeping and dust specs to image; original seals.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case. Mat stamped for Goddard. Penciled note in back of case reads, "Dexter H. Ball[i]n? / Feb 3rd 1855." -- Portrait of a young man with long hair, a slight unibrow, and a thin mustache, possibly of mixed race. (Significant tarnishing to edges, some splotching throughout; unsealed.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case. -- And 20 others, all sixth plate daguerreotypes, many without full cases. -- Together, 22 sixth plate daguerreotype portraits of young adults and teenagers.
