Lot Description
[WESTERN AMERICANA]. A pair of photographs showing a group of surveyors in Kiowa Comanche Country, Oklahoma. 1901.
Group portrait of surveyors arranged in two rows, seated and standing, in front of a a few large tents. One of the men is identified as Joe T. Raley by inscription on image. Inscriptions to mount recto read, "Surveyors, Kiowa Comanche Country Okalahoma 1901" and "Surveyors in 1901." (Discoloration to edges of image, wear an ddiscoloratio nto mount.) -- Group portrait of likely the same group of surveyors in the same location, taken from much farther away and showing horse-drawn wagons to the left side. Joe Rayley is identified by inscription on image in this example as well. Inscription, partly lost, on mount recto reads, in part, "Surveyors - Kiowa...1901." (Large section of loss to mount upper right, heavy soiling to upper area of image.) -- Together, 2 8 x 5 in. silver gelatin photographs on 10 x 7 in. cardstock mounts.
