Lot Description

[TEXAS]. Flag of Texas [With:] 48-star flag.


Flag of Texas. 45 x 58 in. cotton flag with machine-stitched, double-appliqued cotton star (some soiling, few holes in star, some holes and small tears in field, yellow spotting, some fraying and tearing to edges). Cotton hoist with 2 metal grommets, and ink stamps, "Bull Dog Bunting," and "Approved / Official Design." Pinned to the flag is a 2 1/4 x 8 in. "Houston, Texas" silk ribbon, featuring an illustration of the "Lone Star Flag." Ca second-third quarter, 20th century. Possibly a commemorate flag made to celebrate the Republic of Texas. 

[With:] 2 commemorative Texas covers, one with typed recognition of "Independence Day / March 2, 1835," postmarked Bonham, TX, 2 March 1946, the other with typed recognition of "Battle of San Jacinto / April 21, 1836," postmarked San Jacinto Monument, TX, 21 April 1946. Each cover is addressed to Mrs. Anna C. MacKenzie, Canton, OH. 

[Also with:] 48-star flag. 53 1/2 x 93 in. cotton flag with 48 machine-stitched, double-appliqued cotton stars configured in 6 rows of 8 (light spotting, few stains throughout flag). Cotton hoist with 2 metal grommets with manuscript identification to "Mr. and Mrs. Albert Fox, May 30, 1916."
