Lot Description
[NATIVE AMERICANS] -- [WESTERN AMERICANA]. HILLERS, John Karl. (1843-1925), photographer. A group of 10 Powell Expedition stereoviews, incl. Native American subjects and landscapes.
6 x 4 1/2 in. stereoviews on cardstock mounts (very good condition overall, some with toning, light spotting; corner and edge wear to mounts, including some creased corners and edges, staining to margins). Most rectos feature series titles and "US Topographical and Geological Survey of the Valley of the Colorado, By J.W. Powell and A.H. Thompson" imprint. Some versos with applied paper labels including just image title or series title, image number and title, and credit to Hillers. Some with manuscript title.
Titles include: 15. Pai Ute Indians (manuscript to verso). -- 47. Francis Creek. -- 66. Nu-A-Gun-Tits. A tribe of Indians living at the Ve-gas, or Meadows, in Southwestern Nevada. Ko-Mo-Hoats (top left edge of print and mount partially separated from bottom of mount, creasing and some loss to corners). -- 103. U-in-ta Utes. Living in the U-in-ta Valley, on the Western Slope of the Wasatch Mountains, in Utah.
