Lot Description
ROOSEVELT, Eleanor (1884-1962). Autograph letter signed ("E.R."), to Maude Livingston Hall Gray. Washington, D.C., 4 August [1935].
2 pages, 8vo, on The White House letterhead, with original postmarked letter, minor toning, old creases.
Roosevelt writes to her aunt, Maude Gray who was married to playwright and novelist David Gray. She writes about potential visits, and includes a note about David: "David wanted a letter from the State Dept & have sent William a wire so he should get it on the steamer." in 1940, David Gray was appointed minister to Ireland and would serve in the role until June 1947. In his own words, his appointment was because of his relationship as uncle by marriage to Eleanor Roosevelt.
