Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR -- 1864 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION]. The Presidential Election. Appeal of the National Union Committee to the People of the United States. New York: National Union Committee, 1864.
8 1/8 x 11 1/4 in. broadsheet (short separations at old crease). Signed in type by Henry J. Raymond, and 20 others representing the Union states (including Missouri, Kansas, and West Virginia) and Washington, D.C.
The National Union Party was a temporary name used by the Republican party to unite elements of other parties for a national ticket in the 1864 presidential election during the Civil War. It was, in part, a tactic to attract War Democrats, voters in border states, and members of Unionist parties.
Collection of Tom Charles Huston
