Heart of Darkness was originally printed as a three-part serial in Blackwood's Magazine from February to April 1899 to celebrate the publication's one hundredth anniversary. Though the novella received little notice during Conrad’s lifetime, it received a critical reappraisal after Orson Welles and his Mercury Theatre adapted it into a 1938 radio play that reimagined it as a depiction of the rise of a fascist dictator. Forty years later, Francis Ford Coppola would reinterpret it again in his Academy Award-winning classic, Apocalypse Now. Original prospectus laid in.
