Lot comprised of 14 photographs, mostly CDVs, of Confederate military prisons in or near Richmond, Virginia, including Libby, Belle Isle, and Castle Thunder. Conditions generally good, with occasional toning and soiling as well as light edge and corner wear to mounts.
The collection is highlighted by 8 CDVs of Libby Prison taken from multiple perspectives. Photographers/publishers include Richmond, VA, photographers C.R. Rees, Anderson, and Harris & Bancroft, as well as Mrs. De Long, Fairbury, IL. Some of the scenes capture Confederate guards lined up outside of the prison. The consignor notes that one of the views may show Richard Turner, Commandant of Libby, although this cannot be confirmed with all certainty.
