The canvas has an old lining. There is a significant repaired tear along the upper edge, approximately 9 inches long. The rest of the canvas has suffered numerous small tears that have been visibly repaired. There are areas of lifting paint along the center left edge and upper right edge. The background is now quite dark. Under UV light: selective cleaning on the face and collar, the rest is covered by thick, green varnish. Significant amount of inpainting to the background; only a few touches to the nose, more to the hair and collar. Additional images available upon request.
