Moderate deposits of surface dirt and dust; canvas is lined; network of craquelures throughout the surface; areas of inpainting along all edges, with largest visible along the right and left edges of the background, as well as visible hairline strokes of inpainting to the right of the subject's cheek and chin; small to medium paint losses scattered along all edges, with largest area of loss along the center left edge and lower center edge; under a highly reflective varnish. Under UV light: the thick varnish layer prohibits a full reading of inpainting; the aforementioned areas of inpainting do fluoresce, as well as dots of inpainting within the right forehead and nose bridge of the subject; small dots of inpainting within the subject's cravat.
