No place, May 16, 1768. 1 3/4 x 8 in. (44 x 203 mm) (sight). Autograph note, signed by Signer of the Declaration of Independence from New Jersey, Richard Stockton (1730-1781), cut from another document: "Rec'd. 16th May 1768 One Spanish pistole in addition to the above fee -- Richd Stockton." Lightly foxed. In mat and in frame, unexamined out of frame, 8 1/2 x 14 1/2 in. (215 x 368 mm).
"Pistole" was the French name for a Spanish gold coin, and would have been worth about 18 British Shillings at the time.
