7 3/16 x 4 1/2 in. printed glazed cotton/muslin flag with 13 stars arranged in a circular pattern, with one large star at center, surrounded by a wreath of 8 stars, and with one star in each of the 4 corners of the canton (soiling with some discoloration, fraying to some edges and corners; unexamined out of the frame). Mounted to linen cloth and housed in a 10 3/4 x 7 3/4 in. frame. Provenance: New Hampshire (previous listing).
Produced during the first Centennial, this parade flag is an example of the variety and originality with which so many of these Centennial flags were designed prior to the establishment of federal regulations governing the proportions and star arrangement of of United States flags.
