Sale sees 91% sell-through rate by lot, 108% by value, led by a Colombian emerald ring that soared past estimate
Freeman's Important Jewelry sale on September 23 achieved $3.6 million, anchored by standout signed jewelry results from Bulgari, Verdura, Buccellati, and Harry Winston. Private collections dominated the day: Property from an Important Midwest Collection, Property from a Prominent Midwest Collection, Property from the Estate of Sydell Miller, and Property from the Estate of Rebecca Lee all achieved white-glove status, with 100% of lots sold. Overall, the sale achieved a 91% sell-through rate by lot and 108% by value, with 74% of lots selling at or above estimate—a sign of continued strength in the jewelry market.
“We are thrilled with the results of yesterday’s auction, which demonstrated the sustained global interest in estate jewelry and colored gemstones. Buyers really responded to the signed pieces, both antique and modern, from named collections,” said April Matteini, Freeman’s Senior Vice President and Head of Department for Jewelry.
Colombian Emerald Ring Soars to $128,000 — More Than Double Its Low Estimate

Freeman's Important Jewelry sale was led by a standout Colombian emerald, diamond, and platinum ring that far exceeded expectations. Estimated at $60,000–$80,000, the ring ultimately sold for $128,000, more than 1.5 times its high estimate. The piece featured a cushion mixed-cut Colombian emerald, flanked by two pear-shaped diamonds, with additional single-cut diamonds totaling approximately 0.50 carat, all set in platinum. Consigned from an Important Midwest Collection, the ring stood out as the sale’s top lot, underscoring continued strong demand for high-quality, minimally treated Colombian emeralds at auction.
