Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY - UNION CASES]. A group of 13 assorted "oreo" cases containing portraits of women and couples, including:
3 Very Very Rare examples [3-536a, 3-548a, 3-548G (significant chipping to edges)]; one Very Rare example [3-538a] (significant chipping and loss to edges and surface wear throughout); 5 Rare examples [3-496t2, 3-506E, 3-513Mt2, 3-532G, 3-556]; and 4 Scarce examples [3-499, 3-501, 3-502, 3-509 (significant chipping and loss to edges)]. Conditions vary, though most have light to moderate chipping to edges, surface wear, and surface soil.
Cases contain images of women and couples, including a tintype portrait of a couple posed with their heads touching (crazing, darkening to image) [3-513Mt2]; a pair of crisp tintype portraits of a man and woman housed in either side of the same case [3-496t2]; and a tinted albumen headshot portrait of a lovely woman by J. Taylor, New York. Taylor's imprint on verso [3-556].
