Lot Description

[CIVIL WAR]  A group of 7 items related to Wisconsin in the Civil War.


Civil War camp publication Camp Record of the 1st Regiment of Wisconsin Volunteers, dated June 27, 1861, at Hagerstown, MD. 4pp.

Pay certificate to Oscar Lange, veteran of E Company of the 3rd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry of the Army of the Potomac.  Discharged by reason of disability (epilepsy). Dated 8 March 1862.

Rare printed roster of Company I, 3rd Regiment Wisconsin Volunteer Cavalry (reorganization). Ca Oct. 1865. On a patriotic-themed escutcheon.

1865 letter appearing to be from cavalry veteran. Benton Barracks, Mo. July ? 1865? (Many areas of faded script) Charles Dyer(?) to his brother John, Rumors that they will be home before the 25th of the month. He thinks they are turning in their horses that day.  He thinks they should keep their discharge secret, then if things go wrong, they would be the only ones who knew. He hopes to profit by some of the lessons learned in service. More. 

1862 “Darien Soldiers Relief Society” invitation to "Dancing Party and Master Supper." Dec. 18, 1862, Farmer's Hotel, Darien, Wis. "The net proceeds are to be applied to the Benefit of the Sick and Wounded Soldiers."

Ca 1912 Army of the Frontier Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Battle of Prairie Grove, Ark., Dec. 7, 1862, booklet. 8vo, printed wraps, 24pp.  

Unidentified printed photo of a woman (found together with Co. I, 3rd WI regiment roster, 1865 letter, dance invitation, Battle of Prairie Grove booklet). Dress is Civil War era in style.
