8vo. Plates, in-text illustrations. (Lacking title page and preliminaries, one gathering loose.) Modern burgundy cloth backed in red leatherette gilt. 

FIRST EDITION regimental history of the 36th Illinois Infantry. The regiment fought at several major battles including Pea Ridge, Stones River, Chickamauga, Atlanta, Kennesaw Mountain, Franklin, and Nashville. Written by two veterans, Lyman G. Bennet (b. ca 1831) enlisted on 1 August 1861 at Bristol, IL as a corporal and was mustered into Company E of the 36th Illinois on 20 August 1861. he was transferred into 1st Arkansas Cavalry (Union) on 5 December 1863. William M. Haigh (b. ca 1829) enlisted on 18 August 1862 as a chaplain and was commissioned into Field & Staff on 11 October 1862, resigning on 16 May 1864. RARE: no copy ever sold at auction, OCLC locates only 1 copy.
