Lot Description

[CIVIL WAR - NEW ENGLAND]. A group of regimental histories and soldiers' memoirs from Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, comprising: 


ELDREDGE, Daniel (ca 1831-1911). The Third New Hampshire and All About It. Boston: E.B. Stillings and Company, 1893. Eldredge enlisted on 2 August 1861 as a private and was mustered into Co. K of the 3rd NH Infantry on 24 August. Promoted extensively up to 2nd lieutenant (of the Veteran Reserve Corps, 3rd Infantry on 24 May 1865). Wounded in action twice, first at Fort Wagner, SC on 18 July 1863 and severely wounded at Deep Bottom Run, VA on 16 August 1864. Mustered out on 30 June 1866. -- BURLINGAME, John K., editor. History of the Fifth Regiment of Rhode Island Heavy Artillery. Providence, [RI]: Snow & Farnham, 1892. Enlisted as a private on 14 August 1862, mustering into Company 5 of the 5th NH Heavy Artillery the same day. Promoted to hospital steward on 27 March 1863, mustered out on 26 June 1865 at New Berne, NC. -- WAITE, Otis F.R. New Hampshire in the Great Rebellion. Claremont, NH: Tracy, Chase & Company, 1870. One-quarter tan morocco gilt. -- MARVIN, Edwin E. The Fifth Regiment Connecticut Volunteers. Hartford: Wiley, Waterman & Eaton, 1889. Marvin was a veteran of Co. F of the 5th Connecticut, enlisting as a 1st lieutenant on 21 June 1861, promoted to captain on 14 May 1862, and resigned on 12 February 1863. Was involved in the capture of Captain Harper's Co. and Turner Ashby's Cavalry at Columbia Furnace, VA on 16 April 1862.  RARE: OCLC locates only digital copies. -- COGSWELL, Leander W. (b. ca 1826). A History of the Eleventh New Hampshire Regiment Volunteer Infantry. Concord, NH: Republican Press Association, 1891. Provenance: Wisconsin Historical Society (library markings). Cogswell enlisted on 13 August 1862 as a captain and was commissioned into Company D of the 11th NH. Promoted to lieutenant colonel on 20 August 1864 and discharged for disability on 26 April 1865. -- And 2 others. Together, 7 works in 7 volumes, all FIRST EDITION, 8vo, all in publisher's cloth except as noted, condition generally fair to good.
