[CIVIL WAR - SOLDIERS' MEMOIRS - CHAPLAINS]. A group of three chaplains' memoirs, comprising:
CAPERS, Walter B. The Soldier-Bishop Ellison Capers. New York: The Neale Publishing Company, 1912. Biography of Confederate General and theologian Ellison Capers (1837-1908) by his son. -- KINER, Frederick F. One Year's Soldiering Embracing the Battles of Fort Donelson and Shiloh. Lancaster, [PA?]: E.H. Thomas, 1863. Kiner enlisted on 5 October 1861 as a 1st sergeant with the 14th Iowa Infantry and was promoted to chaplain on 21 April 1863. Confined as a POW on 6 April 1862 at Shiloh, paroled on 17 October 1862 at Aiken's Landing, VA. -- ROGERS, J.B. War Pictures. Experiences and Observations of a Chaplain in the U.S. Army, in the War of the Southern Rebellion. Chicago: Church & Goodman, 1863. Rogers enlisted on 2 December 1861 as a chaplain with the 14th Wisconsin Infantry. He was promoted to captain and transferred to Co. C of the 64th USCT on 14 December 1863 but died of disease on 1 July 1864 at Davis' Bend, LA. -- Together, 3 works in 3 volumes, all FIRST EDITIONS, 8vo and 32mo, all in publisher's cloth, condition generally good.
