Lot Description

[NATIVE AMERICAN]. A group of 2 folk art carved frames containing photographs of Native American subjects. 


CORNISH, George B. (1867-1946), photographer. Albumen photograph of Kaw Chief Wah-Shun-Gah, 6 1/2 x 9 in. (sight) matted and framed to 13 x 15 in., with "Cornish Photo / Copyright 1908" in negative. Housed in wood frame with multi-layered geometric pattern carved over its entirety and corners with additional crossed wood adornment and ornamental white stone at center. (Photograph unexamined outside frame, frame with some abrasions and loss to one geometric carving at bottom edge.)

[With:] Wood frame with multi-layered geometric pattern carved over its entirety, 17 1/2 x 13 1/4 in. Frame constructed to accommodate 3 photographs each with a triangular pediment above. Center photograph of Native American male with arms crossed and blanket over his shoulders, approx. 3 1/2 x 5 in.; left photograph of seated Native American man and woman, approx. 2 1/4 x 3 1/2 in.; right photograph of a young Native American child and two older adults, possibly parents, approx. 2 1/4 x 3 1/2 in. (Frame with scattered abrasions, wear, and minor losses. Ornamentation on square accent elements may be missing. Images not examined outside frame.)
