[COLONIAL] - [INDENTURE] Signed by Edward Shippen (IV) as President of the Court of Common Pleas. 2 June 1787.
Indenture, vellum. 10 x 26 in. For sale of a "plantation or piece of land called the Walnut Tract." Mary Trent to Stacy Potts. Shippen has noted that he spoke with Mary Trent as a representative of the court.
Edward Shippen (1729-1806) was from a prominent Philadelphia family. He and his wife had nine children, many of whom also helped shape colonial society. His daughter, Margaret ("Peggy") was the second wife of Benedict Arnold.
