[AVIATION]. Press photograph capturing the explosion of the Hindenberg. Boston, MA: Wide World Photos, 6 May 1937.
7 x 9 in. silver gelatin print of the explosion of the Hindenberg (Lakehurst, New Jersey, 6 May 1937). With Wide World Photos Boston Bureau backstamp and hand-written annotations on verso. Provenance: Previously owned by Thomas F. McGann.
[With:] Typed Texas Senate Resolution No. 24 in Memory of Dr. Thomas F. McGann. The resolution mentions that McGann had been teaching Latin American history at the University of Texas since 1958 until his death in 1982. He was a graduate of Harvard University (both undergraduate and graduate degrees), a captain in the Naval Reserve and taught at the Naval War College in Washington, DC before going to Texas and taught for a year at the Air Force Academy as a "Very Distinguished Visiting Professor." He had authored a book on the history of Buenos Aires.
