Lot Description

[WESTERN AMERICANA - ARIZONA] [HAMMAKER, H.C., photographer?]. [The Hanging of James Fleming Parker. 3 June 1898].


3 3/4 x 4 1/2 in. photograph on 5 1/4 x  6 1/4 in. cardstock mount (rich tonality; corner and edge wear to mount, including slight surface loss). Provenance: Sharlot Hall Museum, Prescott, Arizona (ink discard stamps on mount verso). James Fleming Parker was the last man hanged at the County Courthouse in Prescott, Arizona Territory. Several subjects of the photograph are identified in pencil on verso and include Johnny Munds (who served as a County Sheriff), George Ruffner (Yavapai County Sheriff), Shorty Lacey, Jeff Davis, and Morris Goldwater (Barry Goldwater’s Uncle)."  Mautz pg. 39.
