BARRY MOSER’S HEAVILY ANNOTATED COPY, with his markings, underlinings and notes in pencil and ink throughout indicating many of his references for the subjects of his illustrations for the monumental Arion Press edition (1979), with inserted slips and notes, etc. Some annotations adding instructions to himself, such as: “vertical images - never wider than 17 picas.” On the final blank he quotes Melville’s Fossil Whale and book analogy (Chapter 14): “To produce a mighty book, you must choose a mighty theme.
