[MINING - NEVADA]. A group of 3 early mining images and a photograph booklet of mining activity in Virginia City, Goldfield, and Rawhide, Nevada, comprising:
CROCKWELL, James H. (1855-1940), photographer. Outdoor view of a large mine building. Virginia City, NV, [ca 1888]. 8 1/8 x 4 3/4 in. albumen boudoir card on cardstock mount (toned). Crockwell's imprint on mount verso. -- Outdoor group portrait showing a mine owner holding a large gold nugget. [Goldfield, NV], [February 1906]. 8 1/8 x 6 in. silver gelatin photograph on cardstock mount (losses and cracks to mount with repair). Contemporary pencil inscription to verso. -- PIERCE, C. C. Ore Teams at Mill - Goldfield Nevada. Los Angeles, CA: C.C. Pierce, [ca 1906]. 9 1/2 x 7 3/4 in. photograph. Pencil title to verso. Pierce's 1572 W. Pico St. stamp to verso. -- Together 3 images.
[With:] JOHNSON, Ned E. Souvenir Views of Rawhide Nevada. Rawhide, NV: N.E. Johnson, 1908. Oblong 4to. Photographic illustrations with folding panorama of Rawhide. Publisher's original illustrated green wrappers gilt (minor toning to edges as is common, pencil inscription). FIRST EDITION illustrated photographic viewbook features Johnson's images from 1907 and 1908 showing miners, the developing town, and the mines. Includes the 7 1/2 x 36 in. panoramic view of Rawhide in 1908. SCARCE: OCLC locates 16 copies and online records indicating that only one copy has sold at auction.
