Lot Description
[AMERICANA]. Photograph album of oil geology. N.p., 1917-1919.
Album 5.25 x 8.5 in., string-tied spine. Front free endpaper titled in silver ink: “The Grease Trail." The album has 83 images: 3.5 x 5.5 (62); 2.25 x 4.25 (4); 2.5 x 3.5 (17). First page is a postcard with cartoon “All Around Casper.” The upper left cartoon is captioned: “The latest thing out putting your money into oil wells” showing a man dropping a bag of coins down a pipe with a promoter waiting below to catch it, the oil sands and natural gas off to the side of the pipe. The other images document what seems to be exploratory trips to: {1917} Big Muddy, WY; Great Falls, MT; Blackfeet Reservation, MT; Glacier Park; Havre, MT; Near Powder River, WY; “Cement Region;” {1918} Duncan Okla.
