Lot Description
[JOHN WRIGHT BINDING]. COWPER, William (1731-1800). Poetical Works. London: William Pickering, 1853.
2 volumes, 8vo. Engraved frontispiece portrait. (Some minor spotting.) Green crushed levant gilt, spines in 6 compartments with 5 raised bands, gilt-lettered in 2, the rest with elaborate gilt ornament, board edges gilt, turn-ins gilt, edges gilt, STAMP-SIGNED BY JOHN WRIGHT (spines very slightly sunned, some slight rubbing to corners and spine ends).
Later William Pickering edition, finely bound by John Wright, one of the leading binders of the 1840's. Wright and most of his staff died during the cholera epidemic of 1854.
