Alexander Gardner
two albumen photographs, each approx. 6 1/4 x 3 3/4 in. on later cardstock mounts numbered in pencil at lower left "408" and "409" respectively. The prints lack a studio imprint but were originally taken by Alexander Gardner in 1872.
Son of the Sun is the name of the tribal culture hero who brought the Tai-me or Ten Grandmother bundles to the tribe, the center and basis of Kiowa religious belief. Only a man from a leading family would have been allowed the honor of carrying this title.
