Lot Description
Restored French Style Flintlock Fusil
Colonial Period
.60 caliber. 44" two-stage octagon to round wedge retained barrel. NSN. Bright finish, iron furniture, stretched walnut stock. Single shot flintlock muzzleloading long arm generally of the French "Fusil de Chasse" form. Flat flint lock is 5.25" in length with an integral faceted and bridled iron pan and a flat faceted swan neck cock. Lock appears to be in original flint, with some replaced internal small parts and is lightly engraved at the tail with no discernable maker's markings. Stock of traditional French form with a "Roman Nose "or "French" butt, that is deeply branded MD, possibly suggesting use by the colony of Maryland during the Colonial period. A small socket bayonet lug is attached to the bottom of the barrel, about .25" from the muzzle. The last 11" or so of the forend are restored and spliced to the stock with an added iron ramrod pipe and brass band. A reproduction ramrod is present. {ANTIQUE}
