Lot Description
Composite Charleville Pattern Musket
.72 caliber. 44.5" barrel. NSN. Bright finish, walnut stock. Single shot flintlock muzzleloading musket. Reconverted flint lock marked Charleville in script. Modern added model marking of "1777" stamped in tang. A composite gun, of mostly French M1763/66 type parts with band springs behind the lower and middle bands and the upper band secured with a screw with no band spring cut. Stock shape is more of the US Model 1795 "French Pattern" form, so this is likely an old American restock of French parts that has led a hard life with an old period of use wrist repair using a thick brass plate. A socket bayonet stud is added on the top of the barrel about 1" from the muzzle and traces of the original under barrel location are present. {ANTIQUE}
