A scene depicting the encampment of the Ponca, and the return of three Ponca Native Americans to their camp on the Missouri River near Bazile Creek. The three, including chief Schuh-De-Ga-Che (He Who Smokes), had joined Bodmer's party in May 1833, and are shown here being greeted by a welcoming party. From Bodmer's Travels in the Interior of North America.
A handsome example.
