Christy (born George Harrington) was a star of the minstrel show begun by his father-in-law, Edwin Pearce Christy. Foster was the composer of such antebellum standbys as "My Old Kentucky Home", "Old Susannah!" and "Camptown Races," and Christy purportedly sang many of these songs.
