[Daguerreotype] Jenny Lind "The Swedish Nightingale"
Marcus Aurelius Root (1808-1888), American.
Quarter-plate daguerreotype taken in 1850 at his New York City studio.
Other daguerreotype portraits from this sitting are part of the Harvard Theatre Collection and the Museum of Modern Art. This is the daguerreotype which was later made into a lithograph by Nagel & Weingartner.
Johanna Maria Lind (6 October 1820- 1887), better known as Jenny Lind, was a Swedish opera singer, often known as the "Swedish Nightingale." She was one of the most highly regarded singers of the 19th century, and was known for her performances in soprano roles in Sweden and across Europe, before being brought to America by the impresario P.T. Barnum.
Housed in a contemporary gilt frame, 4.25 x 5".
