Lot Description
[TEXTILES - FOOTBALL] Patriotic bunting from NFL Championship bet. NY Giants and Balt. Colts, 1958.
Cotton bunting featuring printed stars against a blue ground at center, with red and white machine-sewn stripes above and below the stars, 31 1/2 x 54 1/2 in. Provenance: Collection of Cornelius Roche; private collector (inked notation near edge of bunting dated Dec. 28, 1958). With modern label with handwritten notation indicating that the "Patriotic Bunting" was a souvenir from the National Football League Championship Game between the New York Giants and the Baltimore Colts on December 28, 1958, considered by some to be the "Greatest football game ever played." Collected by Cornelius Roche, who also reportedly owned the "uprights" at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
