Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Albumen photograph of a posed scene featuring deceased soldiers at Devil's Den, by Peter S. WEAVER.
4 3/8 x 6 in. (sight) albumen photograph of two men standing among rocks and what appear to be dead bodies at Devil's Den, housed in an oval gilt frame, 8 x 9 1/2 in. overall (print with some light imperfections, not examined out of the frame; frame with some cracks and surface wear throughout).
Peter S. Weaver is credited with capturing this staged image on 11 November 1863, around 4 months after the Battle of Gettysburg. Men play act as fallen Confederate soldiers lying among the boulders, with their weapons and headgear strewn about nearby. The image also shows the western slope of Little Round Top in the distance to the right.
