Lot Description

[REVOLUTIONARY WAR]. Group of 2 New Hampshire land indentures, comprising:


Joshua Foss Jr. (1708-1809) of Barrington, New Hampshire to Benjamin Hall, 2 January 1772, 1p, 7 1/2 x 12 1/2 in. -- Joshua Holmes (1739-1823) of Barrington, New Hampshire to Benjamin Hall, 3 February 1779, 1p, 8 1/2 x 13 12 in. (both with creasing, toning, chipping, and one with adhesive repair on verso).

Benjamin Hall (1702-1779) and his son, also named Benjamin Hall (1730-1810), resided in Barrington, Stratford, New Hampshire during the 1770s. In 1775, the younger Hall enlisted in Captain Benjamin Titcomb’s company, Col. Enoch Poor’s New Hampshire regiment. In late June, his unit marched to Boston and he was on the siege lines in Medford, Massachusetts. When his enlistment ended, he returned to Barrington to continue his life as a farmer and died on October 30, 1810.
