Lot Description
[LINCOLN, Abraham (1809-1865)]. 3 CDVs of Lincoln, incl. profile portrait by BRADY.
CDV on cardstock mount (few surface abrasions to print and mount, one which partially touches the top of Lincoln's head, some edge wear to mount). Credited to Brady's National Photographic Galleries, Washington and New York on verso. Lincoln is shown in profile [O-61]. This image was taken by Mathew Brady in February 1862, soon after the death of Lincoln's son Willie.
CDV on cardstock mount (verso with adhesive residue and toning, else very good). Credited to Charles D. Fredricks & Co. on verso. Lincoln is shown wearing a round-tipped collar, which is one way this portrait differs from any other. Catalogued in Hamilton and Ostendorf as [O-55] or variant. This image is called a "mystery portrait" in Hamilton and Ostendorf's Lincoln in Photographs, as it is unclear exactly who captured the portrait. There are other copies bearing imprints of Germon, McClees, and, like this one, Fredricks.
CDV on thin cardstock mount of Lincoln taken at the White House in Washington, DC, by Wenderoth & Taylor, Philadelphia, PA, sometime in 1864 (minor soiling to mount, else very good). This oval variant of the portrait catalogued by Ostendorf as O-95, includes Wenderoth & Taylor's verso imprint.
Together, 3 CDVs of Lincoln.
Estate of David O'Reilly, Old Bridge, New Jersey
