Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A selection of photographs and prints, incl. photographers with their cameras.

Lot comprised of a combination of original photographs and modern reprints, primarily showing photographers with their cameras or posed near photo wagons.

Highlights include: 11 x 14 in. silver gelatin photograph on cardstock mount of a street photographer with a sign above his camera, which reads "Your Photo in 1 Minute / 5 cents." He appears to be in the act of photographing a group of young women.

[With:] Two (2) occupational photographs of men wearing aprons, the first showing two men standing outside a grocery story, the second showing a man standing in front of an automobile covered in advertisements, 7 x 9 1/2 in. or smaller. -- 10 x 8 in. silver gelatin photograph of a young woman shopping at a market place in Rome, verso with ink stamp credit to Winston Vargas. -- 10 x 8 in. silver gelatin press photograph of Cyd Charisse on set of a film, title and October 1951 date stamped on verso. -- 5 photographs featuring studio portraits of women and men, many artfully posed, approx. 8 1/4 x 6 in. or smaller. -- 14 x 11 in. copy print of an African American man seated on a barrel, looking at what appears to be a pocket watch. -- Pleasures of Photography poster, 27 1/2 x 19 1/2 in.

[Also with:] Modern reproductions of 19th and early 20th century photographs showing photographers with their cameras and their wagons, including Sam A. Cooley with his camera and photo wagon, an ambrotypist's tent, and a studio view of a man posed with this camera, which rests atop a tripod. A round portrait of two men, one holding a Kodak camera, is also enclosed.


Together, a combination of original photographs and modern reprints capturing photographers with their cameras, equipment, and wagons.
