Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY] Album containing albumen prints of Egyptian scenes and landmarks by various photographers.

Oblong album, 12 1/4 x 9 1/2 in. (scuffing, detachment from binding, wear to extremities) containing 76 albumen prints mounted recto/verso, ranging in size from 4 x 5 3/4 in. to 8 1/2 x 11 in. Penciled note to first page reads, "Egypt, visited 1879-1892." Credited photographers throughout the album include L. Fiorillo, Langaki, H. Arnoux, G. Lekegian, and A. Beato. Subjects include: Heliopolis obelisk in Cairo, the Port of Alexandria, the Sphinx, the Pyramids at Giza, the interior of the Muhammad Ali Mosque, various ruins, statues, and temples, various archaeological sites, street scenes featuring merchants, desert scenes featuring camels and bedouins, a snake charmer with snakes, a young boy on his mother's shoulders, group portraits of people in traditional garb, and others.
