Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOG.] CDV album of European and American notables, incl. royalty, statesmen, and authors.

11 x 8 1/2 in. album containing 102 real photo and engraved CDVs of European and American personalities, including royalty, poets, authors, notables, and heads of state. Front free endpaper identified in period hand to "E.K.(?) Pachard, Newcastle, Maine 1867.

Subjects include: Napoleon Bonaparte (engraving), Empress Josephine (engraving), Marie Antoinette (engraving), Lord Palmerston, Lady Palmerston, Earl Russell, Lady Russell, General McClellan and his wife, George Washington (engraving) Ulysses S. Grant (engraving), Actress Lydia Thompson, and many others. Also enclosed is a hand-colored CDV of the Number 1 Fire Brigade in Callao, Peru, showing firefighters in uniform, a small child wearing a white gown seated at the center of them, with their hats, a shield, and trumpet displayed before them. Recto and verso with studio imprint of Courret Hermanos, Callao, as well as imprint of Nadar on verso.
