Lot Description

[CIVIL WAR]. CDV album containing images of New Jersey and Ohio soldiers, including casualties.

6 1/4 x 5 in. album identified to the Dilley Family, containing 50 CDVs of men, women, and children, including Civil War soldiers, some identified on mount recto or verso. An index in the back of the album identifies several subjects. Many of the CDVs are credited to photographers operating studios in New Jersey and Ohio.

The album contains at least 12 CDVs of soldiers who fought for New Jersey or Ohio units, including the following subjects: David Dilley, Co. H, 8th New Jersey Infantry, died of disease on 2/11/1862 at Budd's Ferry, MD. Verso imprint of I.G. Owen, Hagerstown, NJ. -- John Larrison, Co. F, 15th New Jersey Infantry. Uncredited, with "John L. Larrison" stenciled on verso. -- Unidentified soldier, verso imprint of Nason's Excelsior Gallery, Columbus, OH. -- John Thompson, 175th Ohio Infantry. Verso imprint of J.J. Witt, Columbus, OH. -- Unidentified soldier, possibly from the 175th Ohio, verso imprint of Nason's Excelsior Gallery, Columbus, OH. -- Unidentified man who appears to be in military uniform, possibly from the 175th Ohio, verso imprint of E.S.
