Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A collection of tintypes featuring men, women, and children, incl. African American subjects.
2 1/4 x 3. 3/4 in. loose tintype portrait of an African American male child wearing striped socks and a belt plate featuring some kind of animal. He sits on a studio cushion in front of a painted backdrop. --2 1/2 x 3 1/2 in. loose tintype portrait of a young African American male child with slightly lighter skin, wearing a piped child's suit with striped necktie. His hair is parted to one side and he sits in a fringed studio chair in front of a blurred painted backdrop. -- 2 5/8 x 3 1/8 in. tintype portrait of a white adolescent male seated in a chair and holding a medium dog in his lap. The dog's face is slightly blurred from motion. Housed loosely in a paper sleeve. -- 2 3/8 x 3 3/4 in. loose tintype portrait of a long-haired girl posed before a painted backdrop with a floral studio prop on one side and a dog that also appears to be a studio prop on the other side. -- 6 1/2 x 4 1/2 in tintype group portrait of 6 men and women posed together in a studio setting arranged to look like an outdoor scene. Housed in a modern frame. -- A pair of quarter plate tintype portraits of a man and woman, the woman being posed in profile and the man facing the camera directly. Housed together in an antique wooden frame. -- And 31 others, mostly loose. Conditions vary. -- Together, 38 tintype portraits.
