Lot Description

[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. 20 sixth plate daguerreotypes of assorted subjects, incl. trios and an example by EASTMAN.

A lovely horizontally-oriented portrait of 3 women. (Significant tarnishing and tarnish spotting throughout image, some spotting to mat.) Housed in a pressed paper case (surface wear and loss). -- Bust portrait of a young man wearing a hand-tinted neckerchief. (Significant area of tarnishing to subject's left and diagonal stripe across subject's chin, some spotting, specks.) Mat stamped "EASTMAN." Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case (split at spine, surface loses, residue). -- Horizontally-oriented portrait of 3 young ladies, the two on the outside each posed with a gloved hand on the shoulder of the one in the middle. (Some tarnishing and chemical discoloration to plate, some spotting to mat.) Housed in a pressed paper case (surface wear). -- And 17 others. Some without cases. Conditions vary (some barely visible). -- Together, 20 sixth plate daguerreotypes.
