Angels in America debuted on Broadway in 1993, earning Tony Kushner both the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play. In 2003, Kushner adapted the plays into an HBO miniseries directed by Mike Nichols and starring Meryl Streep and Al Pacino, for which he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series or Movie.
