Half-title; 43 engraved plates by Hablot Knight Browne ("Phiz"), Robert William Buss, and Robert Seymour, including engraved frontispiece and additional engraved vignette title-page, EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED WITH 29 PLATES BY THOMAS ONWHYN. (Very occasional spotting, extra plates with some marginal soiling and wear.) 20th century navy morocco gilt, spine in 6 compartments with 5 raised bands, gilt-lettering in one, others with gilt centerpieces, all edges gilt, stamp-signed by Riviere.

FIRST EDITION IN BOOK FORM, text with most of the first issue points listed in Smith, but this copy with signature E on p.25. The plates are in mixed states per Hatton & Cleaver. Gimbel A15; Grolier English 78; Hatton & Cleaver, pp.34-88; Smith I:3.
