[CIVIL WAR]. 6 views of Civil War prison camps including Elmira and Belle Island.
6 stereoviews on yellow and buff mounts, some with applied paper labels to verso and some with inscriptions. Includes 2 copies of the same image, described on verso label thusly: "The Union Prison Camp at 'Bell Isle,' Richmond, VA. / Maj. Thos. P. Turner, Commandant of the 'Libby Prison,' dressed in gray, with felt hat on, seen as prominent figure on hill overlooking the encampment. The Confederate guard tents at brow of the river in the distance. The original negative of this view destroyed by fire on the 3rd of April 1865." -- One example published by J. E.
