[CIVIL WAR]. 12 early war views featuring the 5th New York Regiment, "Duryea's Zouaves."
12 stereoviews on mostly yellow mounts, some with printed or inscribed captions, none with photographers identified. Includes: 6 views identified as being captured at Fortress Monroe, including 2 examples of the same camp scene featuring tents, practice drills, mess/leisure activities, and a farcical view of Zouaves playacting an amputation scene. -- One view featuring a group using a trunk or field desk as a table for their food and beverages, with "N.C. Staff Mess / 5th Regt N.Y.S.T." printed on one side of the trunk/desk. An African American subject stands behind the group of soldiers, wearing a knife in a holster. -- 4 examples of the same view of Zouaves gathered on a porch and posed theatrically, with one man looking through a telescope into the distance and others posed with their weapons. (2 nearly separated along vertical creases, one with taped repair.) -- Color-tinted view of Zouaves arranged in rows in a green grass field, each with a long rifle held to one side. -- Together, 12 stereoviews.
